About Immanuel
Situated on the corner of Snelling and Goodrich
in St. Paul, across from Macalester College, Immanuel Lutheran Church (ELCA)
is a historic Lutheran congregation seeking to be a spiritual and
practical blessing in our neighborhood community and in our world today.
Immanuel seeks to be hospitable, to welcome the
stranger, and to practice the equality of all people. Neither race, gender,
economic class, sexual orientation, age, nor even creed will prevent us
from welcoming people as brother or sister and a child of God fully.
Our worship is rooted deeply in the liturgy, but
unbound by a singular cultural form. We seek to express connection
with our global neighbors and partners in our prayer and in our music, as
well as in our service and giving.
Our serving seeks to make a difference for the
most vulnerable among us and around us: children and aged, impoverished
and homeless, lonely and disabled, hungry and sick. We emphasize
volunteering in hands-on service, as well as being generous with our
resources. Multiple ministries, teams and efforts address the needs
we see around us as best we can, some by advocating and giving voice,
others by pitching in with our hands.
Our recently renovated space is both a practical blessing and symbolic
of the life we seek to embody. We have created useful and hospitable
spaces for many in our community to gather in and to enjoy. Immanuel
houses children's programs of daycare, art-learning, and music
enrichment. We have a variety of groups and resources for
seniors. Two other worshipping communities share our space on
Sundays.
Immanuel seeks to create space for diverse people to gather in God's
grace.
