Aging Splendidly

Aging Splendidly is a monthly lunch and speaker series September through May on the second Thursday of the month.  Everyone is welcome, whether you are an Immanuel member or not.  Deb Bowman, RN, Lyngblomsten Community Wellness & Education Coordinator, provides health checks starting at 11:30.  Lunch begins at noon and the talk runs from 12:30 until 1:30.  All for just $7.  Reservations suggested.  Please call Russ at 651-699-5560.

For better than 40 years, Jim Stewart taught American history at Macalester College and wrote books explaining how slavery was abolished in the 19th and 20th centuries. Now, at age 71, he’s combating slavery as it exists today. How can what you’ve become best at during a long working life help you to reinvent yourself while “aging splendidly”?

Dave Klevan will share what he has learned about the religion of Islam, recent political movements in Muslim countries, and United States relations with these countries including recently visited Egypt and Tanzania. He will finish with a brief biography of a couple of his Muslim friends.

There is a “use it or lose it” principle for cognitive ability – if we stimulate our brains, we continue to grow dendrites, even in old age. Lucy Rose Fischer will explore the power of creativity in later life using a combination of research, personal stories, and vivid illustrations.
